“Healing a difficult wound is like putting all the pieces of a puzzle together. Our successful outcomes are due to our team approach. Experts from many disciplines collaborate to find a unique solution for each difficult wound,” explained Nikki Ralston, P.T., C.W.S., M.B.A., director of the Huguley Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine.
The Huguley Center for Wound Care treats problem wounds and slow-healing wounds with a team of specially trained physicians, certified wound specialists, wound-care nurses, physical therapists and hyperbaric technicians. They develop an individualized treatment plan which can include hyperbaric medicine, bioengineered skin grafts, growth factor therapy, electrical stimulation and advanced wound-care dressings.
Nonhealing wounds significantly impair the quality of life for millions of people in the United States and impart an enormous burden on society in terms of lost productivity and health care dollars. Many factors can delay or prevent healing of a wound, including underlying medical conditions, age, nutrition, trauma and stress. Three of the most common difficult wounds include pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers and venous leg wounds. |
