New Community Mobile Health Services Bus to be Revealed August 19

Huguley Memorial Medical Center commits to providing low- or no-cost healthcare to those in need.

Huguley Memorial Medical Center will reveal its new Mobile Health Services Bus August 19 at 10 am at the Huguley Chapel parking lot. The new 43-foot bus was custom-built for Huguley and replaces a smaller model that’s been in use since the late 90s. In 2010, Huguley’s Mobile Health Services Bus provided 9,420 immunizations in Johnson and Tarrant Counties.

“Early screenings and intervention through the mobile health bus has played a significant role in reducing both the cost and the suffering of the medically underserved,” says Kent Tucker, Huguley vice president.

The Huguley Mobile Health Services Bus offers blood pressure screening, childhood/adult immunizations, cholesterol screening, diabetes checks, electrocardiogram (EKG) testing, flu and pneumonia shots, hepatitis A & B immunizations, lab work, osteoporosis screening, STD screening, tetanus shots, and vision screening.

Joe Wascomb, Huguley’s Community Outreach Coordinator, says Huguley is “committed to providing low- or no-cost healthcare to those in need. It’s an extension of Huguley’s ministry of ‘Furthering the Healing Ministry of Christ.’”  The bus travels to locations across Tarrant and Johnson Counties, including schools and churches, to provide these services. It also provides first aid at community events.

Tucker says the bus was made possible in part by generous donations from the employees of Huguley, Chesapeake Energy Corporation, Huguley volunteers, Huguley’s Crystal Heart Gala, and a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration.
