Hal Coffman, RN, is the new manager at Huguley Memorial Medical Center’s rapidly growing cardiac catheterization lab, or “cath lab.”
Huguley’s
Cardiovascular Service Director Barbara Willis says that the cath lab and Huguley’s Chest Pain Center in the emergency department have collaborated with great success in restoring blood flow to the heart through catheterization of a blocked coronary artery.
“In 2010, 100% of Huguley’s heart attack patients had blood flow re-established within or faster than the national standard,” she says. This reduces damage to the heart muscle and allows the heart to pump blood to vital organs.
According to Coffman, Huguley sees about 3,000 cath lab patients each year, and since 2008 has seen an approximate increase of 70 percent in peripheral catheterization cases.
Coffman has managed or worked in five cath labs in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex in the past 18 years. Most recently he was the manager of Texas Health Harris Methodist Fort Worth’s cath lab.
Willis says Coffman’s specialty in cardiac electrophysiology and his experience as a cath lab manager are an asset to Huguley as the cath lab grows and adds new procedures to its repertoire.
Coffman, currently of Weatherford, has an associate of science in nursing degree from North Central Texas College and is a member of the Texas Nurses Association.
