Huguley Memorial Medical Center and Byram Healthcare have partnered to offer free diabetes screenings on the Huguley Mobile Health Services bus this month, which is National Diabetes Awareness Month.
First, patients will receive a fingerstick blood glucose test. If that result is elevated, blood will be drawn for a hemoglobin A1C test, which measures blood glucose over three months. A donation by Byram Healthcare, a disposable medical supply company, will cover the expense of the hemoglobin A1C test.
On Wednesday, November 16, the Huguley Mobile Health Services Bus will be at Fieldstreet Baptist Church, 306 N. Field Street in Cleburne from 10 – 12 and 1 – 3.
On Monday, November 21, the Huguley Mobile Health Services Bus will be at Harvest House, 349 NW Renfro Street in Burleson from 9 – 11:30 and 12:30 – 3.
Diabetes is a chronic condition associated with high levels of glucose in the blood. Over time, high blood glucose can lead to blindness, kidney disease, strokes and coronary heart disease. Diabetes is the third leading cause of death in the United States after heart disease and cancer.
The Huguley Mobile Health Services bus offers low-cost lab work, adult and child immunizations and screenings at six locations monthly in Johnson Country. For more information, go to www.huguley.org or call 817-551-2555.
