Weight Control Workshops Offer Strategies to Vanquish Holiday Pounds

10/14/2008

From Halloween through the New Year, the holidays are filled with more food, more stress, and more emotional highs and lows than the rest of the year.  Many of us overeat, and then make January the season of guilt and diets.  To break the cycle, Huguley Nutrition Services is offering three workshops to help people make peace with food, gain better control of their weight and raise their metabolism.

Classes will be taught by Norene Sofranac, a registered dietitian at Huguley Memorial Medical Center.  The workshops are open to the public.  People may attend any or all of the classes, which will cover these topics:
October 20:    Hidden Fats and Sugars
November 10:   Emotional Eating—Embracing It!
November 17:   Interval Eating and Exercise:  Making it Work

Workshops will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Huguley Fitness Center Amphitheater.  The $15 fee for each workshop includes handouts and beverages.

“It’s easier to gain the knowledge and power to stay in the driver’s seat over the holidays than to have holiday overeating wreak havoc on your weight and your emotions,” said Norene Sofranac, RD, LD.
