Cathy Smith, publisher of Star Group Newspapers, Inc., has joined the Huguley Memorial Medical Center Board of Directors for a three-year term.
Prior to her recent promotion to publisher, Mrs. Smith was the advertising director of Star Group Newspapers, which produces six newspapers that serve communities in Johnson and south Tarrant Counties.
In her 22 years in Burleson, Mrs. Smith has won multiple awards from the Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce for her community service. She volunteers for numerous community events and organizations, often serving in leadership positions. Some examples of her sustained service in recent years include the Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce Advisory Board, Chairperson of the Honeyfest Committee, Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassador, Huguley’s Crystal Heart Gala Committee, and the Miss Burleson Pageant co-executive director.
“It’s a privilege to have Cathy join our board,” said Pete Weber, president and CEO of Huguley Memorial Medical Center. “Her knowledge of the area, her commitment to service, and her perspective as a cancer survivor give her comprehensive and forthright insights to share with Huguley so we can anticipate and meet the healthcare needs of our growing community.”
The Huguley Board of Directors consists of eighteen members including community leaders, physicians, hospital administrators, and executives of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The board provides guidance and oversight to the medical center.
Mrs. Smith and her husband, Jeff, have raised their two children, Billy and Lauren, in Burleson.
