John Griswell, M.D., has been selected as a 2008 Healthcare Hero by the Fort Worth Business Press. Dr. Griswell, who lives in Keene, is the medical director for Emergency Physician’s Advisory Board, which provides medical oversight for MedStar Emergency Medical Services. He also serves as the medical director of the emergency department of Huguley Memorial Medical Center. In both roles, he has a significant impact on community health.
He will be honored at a banquet at the Fort Worth Club on Wednesday, February 27. Also, the Fort Worth Business Press will feature the nineteen healthcare heroes in a special section.
“Dr. Griswell brings a selfless passion for serving others to his work. We are thrilled that he received this honor, which reflects his dedication to helping those in critical situations,” said Pete Weber, president and CEO of Huguley Memorial Medical Center.
Dr. Griswell is beginning his 14th year as medical director for MedStar, which provides 911 and non-emergency ambulance service for Fort Worth and 14 surrounding communities. He provides medical oversight, trains, and determines the scope of practice and protocols for the paramedics and emergency medical techs. He has formed a cohesive organization among the emergency first-responders although they originate from 18 different fire departments and an independent contractor.
Board-certified in emergency medicine, Dr. Griswell joined the Huguley emergency department in 1978 and has been its medical director since 1986. When Huguley’s emergency department renovated and tripled in size, Dr. Griswell insisted on private rooms to increase privacy and to enhance patient care.
Dr. Griswell graduated with a B.A. in theology from Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska. He earned a Master of Divinity from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Fluent in Spanish, Dr. Griswell holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, Mexico. He completed his internship and residency training at D.C. General Hospital in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Griswell is a member of the Vocal Majority, an international award-winning men’s chorus. He is an affiliate faculty member of the American Heart Association. He has served on the boards of the American Heart Association and Chisholm Trail Academy. |
